HALLOWEEN GAME FAIR – AN UPPER ELEMENTARY TRADITION


With names like “Which Witch Hat”, “Bowl of Surprise”, and “Water the Monster” who wouldn’t be intrigued to participate in the Upper Elementary hosted Halloween Carnival? The Friday before Halloween, students of the lower elementary classes were treated to a plethora of activities conceptualized and created by the older elementary students. The school yard had stations set up all over with each host setting up to receive eager lower elementary participants. Through prior weeks of work, each student had spent time conceptualizing, executing, and writing their welcome script for a game that would have all the fun Halloween related elements with none of the scariness! Once the games began, one could dig for ghostly treasure in the bowl, participate in an obstacle course on the jungle gym decorated with spider webs or a maze of ropes after answering a true or false question, toss “eyeballs” at a target, move a spider on a race track by blowing into a straw, draw a pumpkin while blindfolded, race a partner with a broom stick and pumpkin, or try to wet the monster. And these were just a few of the activities!!! Each year, this Khalsa tradition, shows students creative ways to learn from one another. And after taking care of this responsibility they are ever eager to participate in each other’s games!!!
