Infant/Pre-Toddler Program
At Khalsa Montessori School, our Infant/Pre-Toddler Program
offers a nurturing and thoughtfully prepared environment where children aged
3 months to independent-walking-age begin building early independence, exploration, and connection with the world around them. Rooted in Montessori principles,
the Infant/Pre-Toddler classroom allows infants to learn through movement, observation, touch, and connection at their own pace in a calm, intentional space.
Overview

What is a Nido (Infant) Program in Montessori?
In Montessori philosophy, the infant environment is called the Nido (an Italian word meaning “nest”). The Nido is designed to honor the child’s earliest stage of development. Rather than focusing on instruction, the Montessori infant environment supports Independence from the very beginning, freedom of movement, sensory exploration, and early concentration, respect for the child’s natural environment, secure attachment, and emotional well-being.
Our Infant/Pre-Toddler Program at Khalsa
At Khalsa Montessori, our Infant/Pre-Toddler (Nido) program is designed as a gentle bridge between home and our Toddler classroom. This program supports children until they are confidently walking and ready to transition independently into our Toddler environment. This early preparation helps children develop trust and security, build early independence, strengthen coordination and movement, and transition smoothly into the Toddler Classroom.
Our Infant/Pre-Toddler guides are deeply experienced, attentive, and committed to respectful, responsive care aligned with Montessori principles. By offering a thoughtfully prepared infant environment, we are supporting parents during an important season – providing peace of mind, continuity of care, and a strong Montessori foundation for their child’s future.
Vacation Care

Vacation Care is available to all Infant/Pre-Toddler students. Families have the option to sign up for Vacation Care when they fill out their annual School Year Enrollment Contracts. This program provides a safe and engaging environment beyond regular school hours, ensuring continuity in care and learning.
The program is operated in accordance with the Department of Health Services guidelines and is annually inspected to maintain compliance. The staff is CPR and First Aid certified and undergoes annual training mandated by the AZDHS. All staff employed in the Extended Care program will maintain a valid Level 1 IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FCC).
Our School Year Calendar includes the dates covered by our Vacation Care program. For more information and pricing, please consult the Toddler & Primary Tuition Rates page.
Summer Program
Khalsa Montessori School offers a Summer Program, which typically runs for 8 weeks. There are 4 Summer Sessions that run for 2 weeks at a time. Summer Registration traditionally begins mid-March.
The Khalsa Montessori Summer Program offers students a variety of fun and creative activities within a Montessori setting. Infant/Pre-Toddlers thrive on consistency. Giving them an experience of routines while developing their gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, self-care skills, and verbal skills is an important focus during the summer. We also present Montessori lessons along with practicing Grace and Courtesy.
Current students will have the opportunity to continue cementing their lessons from the last school year. Incoming students will get the opportunity to learn classroom routines, get initial Montessori lessons, and make new friends.
