Students learn how to understand and master musical rhythm in a group setting playing on beautiful hand-percussion instruments like djembe, cajon, pendeiro, shekere, and tubano. Join a local world-class instructor who has performed around the world and worked with the best musicians on the planet. A variety of games and engaging exercises will be used to apply a simple yet profound knowledge of rhythm. Students will learn a visualization system called The Rhythm CompassTM (taught at UCLA and UCD) that makes understanding rhythmic relationships fun and easy. The mathematics of rhythm are counting and cardinality, operations, ratios, and algebraic thinking. Enhance your math and enhance your groove!

The class will be taught by Henri Benard. Henri is an experienced, focused teacher and musician who really enjoys seeing students achieve their goals and desires musically. He is a goal-oriented individual with a versatile background and believes music should always be fun and inspiring for everyone, no matter what skill level. Henri has years of experience touring nationally and internationally with several award-winning groups. Henri is also an adjunct faculty member of Mesa Community College.
