Parenting Workshops 2019

The Positive Discipline Workshop “First Five Years” is an Experience That Will Transform Your Parenting… and Your Life!

If your child:

  • Does not listen, does not obey you or is very strong willed
  • Gets frustrated very quickly, shouts, bites and/or kicks
  • Cries when you discipline him or when you go to work every day
  • Has temper tantrums
  • Interrupts you all the time
  • Doesn’t like sharing

“I learned that my issues with my son were not unusual and were felt by others as well. I also learned how to implement a lot of tools that I was aware of, but was not doing fully. I learned how to set boundaries and rules in a way that effectively help my son feel more comfortable.”

Nick Roosevelt, Toddler Parent

“Martha’s honesty and direst approach was a breath of fresh air! She was what I liked most about the workshop.”

Erica Acevedo-Ontiveros, Primary Parent

“I struggled with tantrums and throwing toys. I learned multiple ways to parent and handle these. The workshop was safe, easy to understand, had logical & doable techniques, and I learned how to stay calm.”

Julie Armstrong, Toddler Parent

This workshop will show you effective ways to …

  • Use non-violent discipline techniques that work
  • Improve communication with your children
  • Teach responsibility and other important values
  • Handle problems as they come up
  • Defuse power struggles with your children
  • Stimulate independence as your child grows older
  • Encourage your children to be the very best!

Active Parenting (Ages 5-12) Will Transform Your Parenting… and Your Life!

If you consider the rapid changes in our society over the last few decades, it’s easy to see that today’s parents face much greater challenges than previous generations of parents.

On top of that, the problems that our children will face are far more dangerous than the ones we experienced in our childhood: Starting with bullying and ending with drug abuse, alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy and suicide. These problems, along with the dramatic shift in family status and security, make the job of effective parenting more difficult than ever before.

You know you need to do things differently… and you know you need to utilize new ideas. Parenting can be overwhelming, but I don’t believe you need to struggle for years before you breakthrough. This 6-week workshop (12 hours of training) will be the most fulfilling, eye-opening EXPERIENCE you’ve had as a parent.

“What I liked most about the workshop was Martha’s ideas and input. I enjoyed the discussions about workbook activities from prior weeks.”

Camille Hartmetz, Upper Elementary Parent

This workshop will show you effective ways to …

Martha Portilla

KMS is pleased to announce the return of Martha Portilla of Mindful Parenting, who will be offering parenting workshops again this fall. Based on the needs of the child, Martha will offer a workshop for Khalsa parents of students aged 0-4 and another for Khalsa parents of students aged 5-12 during the 2019-20 school year. Martha Portilla has been a Montessori teacher for 18 years and is a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and Parenting Trainer. In 2011, she founded www.mindfulparenting.us in order to share skills that can assist parents in helping children and families reach their highest potential.

Depending on the age level, between four and six 2-hour long workshop sessions will be offered starting in the fall. A detailed description of each workshop along with cost for each type of attendee (single parent or couples) is available at each campus office. There is still space available, please register at the Primary, Elementary, or Middle School campus office by August 9th. Full payment will be due at time of registration.

The Primary (0-4 yr old) Workshop will take place on Thursdays, August 29th, September 5th, 12th, and 19th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Middle School campus.
